OUR BELIEFS

God: Father, Son, Holy Spirit

We believe that there is one God who has eternally existed and created all things. God eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each person is fully God and divine in all of their attributes, yet there is only one God.

Jesus, the Son of God

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and God incarnate. He has eternally existed with the Father and the Holy Spirit before the beginning of time and has never ceased to exist. In submission to the will of His Father, He came to this earth, being born of a virgin and living the life of a human. Though he took on human flesh, he did not cease to be God. He was fully man and fully God at the same time and will be so forever.

Holy Spirit

Bible

We believe that the Holy Spirit is fully God and is to be worshiped with the Son and the Father. He is the giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father. He indwells all of those who trust in Jesus Christ, leading, guiding and teaching His people, sanctifying and transforming them into the image of Jesus Christ. He works to manifest the presence of God in the world and church.

We believe that the Bible is the written word of God. The Holy Spirit has completely inspired every word that has been written. In the process of creating the Bible, God used holy men, prophets, apostles and men of the sort to write down stories, messages, addresses, epistles, and more to edify and guide his people in all things.

Humanity/Man

We believe that God created humans in his image. Both men and women were made in the image of God and reflect aspects of His attributes and nature. God did not need to create humans, but He did so for His own glory, and all humans can only find their true purpose in life by living in surrender to their Creator.  God created humans good, but sin entered into mankind in the garden when they disobeyed the command of God, corrupting all of creation, including humanity.

Salvation

Man was separated from God because of our sin. God is a holy God and must judge sin. But the Father, loving the world, sent His Son to be a sacrifice for the sins of the world. Jesus Christ lived a perfect life, without sin and died on the cross for our sins, taking on God’s wrath and the punishment we deserved. He was buried for three days and rose from the grave on the third day. His life, death and resurrection are the only hope of reconciliation with God. There is nothing that we can do to make ourselves right with God since our sin stands in the way; we must turn to Jesus, resting in His finished work.

Baptism

Baptism is the first of the two ordinances. It is an outward confession of the inward reality of being united to Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. We believe that baptism should be an individual’s choice, reflecting their faith in Christ and their inclusion in the family of God. It typically occurs only once in a believer’s life and is not meant to be an ongoing experience.

The Church

The Church comprises all believers worldwide. It is expressed locally through various gatherings, but it is more than just a Sunday group gathering. The Church is the body of Christ, with Christ as the head, empowered by the Holy Spirit and walking in the authority of Christ.

Two Sacraments

We believe that the Lord has left the Church with two sacraments or ordinances to continue doing until He returns. These are not efficacious to salvation but are 1) means of grace in the believer’s life and 2) reminders and outward proclamations of internal realities.

Communion

Communion is the second of the two ordinances. Unlike baptism, which should be performed once, the Lord’s supper ought to be observed repeatedly throughout our lives as a sign of continuing in fellowship with Christ. The drink symbolizes his blood that was poured out for us, and the bread represents his body that was broken for us. This is a holy and precious thing that is to be done often.

The Future

Jesus Christ will return one day, in human bodily form, to carry out vengeance on his enemies and establish his Kingdom on earth! He will judge all the living and the dead from the beginning of the planet. Those who have put their faith in him will enter into the Kingdom of God and live in the presence of God away from corruption, sin, death, grief and all evil. Those who have not trusted in Him will be given up eternal separation from God, experiencing conscious torment and suffering.

VALUES
& PILLARS

Teaching

Worship

Prayer

Evangelism

Fellowship

Serving

Excellence

Generosity

Faithfully expounding the word of God. The Lord has primarily spoken to us through His word, so faithful, biblical and passionate teaching of God’s word is necessary for a church to grow!

Authentic surrender to God. Worship is more than just singing (even though singing is essential to us); it is our entire lives laid down before God in surrender to Him and His will.

Prayer is essential to us at Christ Like. We ought to seek God’s face daily, partnering with Him in the work that He is doing around us and around the world.

Christ had mandated the apostles to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations, and we believe this mandate remains unchanged for the church. At Christlike, we stand on the one true gospel of Jesus Christ and desire to spread it to every corner of our community to see the light of Christ shine in Kitchener-Waterloo!

A family of brothers and sisters united by faith. Here at Christ Like, we encourage more than just weekly church attendance; we invite you to join a community that you can call your family and do life with.

No Christian is on the sidelines of ministry. We aim to help all members walk in faithful obedience to God's call in their lives.

If all things are to be done for the glory of God, we believe that we should strive to give our best to God in everything we do. Whatever we do, we strive to work at it with all our heart, as working for the Lord and not for man.

At Christ Like, we believe that it is more blessed to give than to receive. We follow Christ’s example of him graciously giving himself (2 Corinthians 8:9) and look to give ourselves and resources to those in need.
